Published in conjunction with a combined exhibition of work by Michaël Borremans and Mark Manders at the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa, this volume documents what turned out to be an remarkable encounter between these two European artists. The delicate experiment of a double show like this one forces interference and tension between two distinct bodies of work, with the work of one artist providing the framework for the other, and vice versa. Nevertheless, it is an exemplary show in which a kind of choreography between Borremans, a painter, and Manders, a sculptor and installation architect, emerges through a sombre colours and formal contrasts.
